Heerlen, Holland
On Thursday the 28th we welcomed our good Rotarian friends and their wives/partners from Heerlen, near Maastricht in Holland. This programme was as full as ever starting with dinner in the host family homes. On Friday the main attraction was the Great Dorset Steam Fair which is held yearly in Blandford and is an excellent day out! Saturday embraced a visit to Shelley Theatre in Boscombe for a talk about the world famous R.A.F Red Arrows, followed by lunch and then a short walk to Boscombe Beach to watch the Bournemouth Air Show which culminated in the Red Arrows Flying Display.
We went back to Shaftesbury to Phil Proctor’s and Gary’s home for a pre-dinner drink and then across the road for the formal and farewell dinner at the Fleur De Lys. Sunday saw the return of our friends back to Holland.
Other Activities
We had Robin Miller Chair for the British Legion who “pulled no punches” but with humour regarding European legislation on health and safety and how it might relate to the armed services. He also spoke with great insight about stress related illnesses.
