4th December – Late Night Shopping

The Clubs fund raising activities for December started with The Mulled Wine, Spiced Apple and Mince Pie stall at the Late night Shopping Event. We also assisted with the marshalling of the High Street Parade, which was followed by the Town’s Illuminations being turned on by Celebrity Guest James May. This was the largest crowd yet for this event and Rotarians turned out in their Christmas attire. Despite the unseasonably warm weather we sold over 250 cups of Hot Gluwein and 170 mince pies raising a Nett total in excess of £260.

14th December – Scout Jamboree

Nancy and Dave from Shaftesbury and Gillingham Scout Explorer troops came to talk to us about their Scout Jamboree in Japan. We had supported them with a grant. It was wonderful to hear of the life changing experience they had had, meeting thousands of other young people from all over world, having fun, swapping scout mementoes and building international friendships for life.

17th December – Charity Christmas Dinner Dance

Wow! What a great evening, good food, drinks, music and dancing. All generously hosted by Denise, Steve and Sonia (Daughter) and friends in their beautiful barn conversion home. So much planning, hard work and delivery went into the event.

A huge thanks to Sadie and Martin who were the main organisers; Sadie being supported by wives and partners who supplied, cooked and served the choice of three delicious main courses followed by an excellent array of puddings. Martin, who engaged the band and with the help of Steve transported the tables and chairs from the village hall, Paul and Bernard who ran the bar provided a real team effort to have fun and raise money for the local Head Smart charity.

Also, it was great to see five of our business partners plus friends and neighbours of Rotary enjoying themselves. All in all, an evening to remember. See our gallery for all the photos.

21st December – Last Supper

Last Supper 1

After such a successful party, our last meeting before Christmas was a relatively quiet event at the Fleur de Lys restaurant. The dress theme was “All lit up for Christmas”. Our next meeting will be a social event on January 16th and then back to regular meetings on January 25th.

Street Collections

Our second event was an evening collection on Tuesday 11th December and thanks to the kind permission of Tesco’s Shaftesbury where we raised a further £183.75.

Saturday the 19th was our third event raising a further £268.25. Our final event was another evening collection at Tesco on the 22nd December where we raised £167.57, making our final total £619.57.

Thank you to all the Rotarians who have supported these events and willingly given their time to help raise funds for our local charities.

We would also like to thank the Public who have given generously to our cause and we will post the total raised early in 2016. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year.
