March
March 7th – No meeting
March 11th – Defibrillator Training
In Shaftesbury on 11th March Kate Fisher of the South Western Ambulance Community Response Team explained just what is, and demonstrated how to use it when a person suffers a cardiac arrest. The audience, ranging in age from pre-teen to 85, saw the actual kit installed next to the Town Hall, and heard the clear concise recorded voice giving easy to follow instructions.
Shaftesbury Rotary donated the Defibrillator for the benefit of local people and visitors, and David Wynn-Mackenzie thanked the audience for giving up an hour to learn about this life-saving kit, and Kate for her enthusiastic demonstrating skills. A repeat session is planned for late summer, probably in September.
March 14th – Talk from Ross Cruickshank
We were fascinated by how it touches all of our lives even if we are not aware of it and discussed some of our anxieties including how much somebody out there might know of us and of course security risks.
March 18th – Evita
A group of members and partners visited the Octagon to watch the Yeovil Operatic Society’s production of Evita. We very much enjoyed the show which was of the usual high standard. We concluded the evening with a visit to an Italian restaurant. Our grateful thanks to honorary member Gerry and his wife Liz for organising the whole evening.
March 21 – Business Meeting
This was our business meeting. All was in hand for our imminent twinning trip to Heerlen in the Netherlands. We discussed support for Foundation our own Rotary charity and Polioplus which is working to remove this disease from the world.
