May 9th – Rodney Attwood

We met at the Fleur. Our speaker was Rodney Attwood the author of several military books. He gave us a fascinating insight into General Kitchener and a perception of the man behind the famous World War I recruiting poster. We also learnt about his working relationship with Churchill which was initially hostile but flowered into mutual respect as the two men learned more of one another.

May 20 – President’s Celebration

President’s evening Richard Shean’s Presidents evening was celebrated in spectacular style at the Royal Chase Hotel. Almost 100 of us including a good number of business partners and corporate members were welcomed at the drinks reception by Richard and Dawn together with incoming president Bernard Skam and his partner Sheena. We enjoyed a black tie event lightened by Bernard Skam and Paul Slimm who did a hilarious comedy routine. The dance-floor after the meal was packed. It truly was a Presidents night to remember and the highlight to a very successful year – congratulations Richard! Photos to follow soon.

Boules at the Plough Inn Manston. A competition between Shaftesbury, Gillingham, Sturminster and Blandford. Whilst we did not win the highlight of the evening was the three ladies who beat last year’s champions Blandford. The Shaftesbury Rotarian men did not do so well!
