26th September – Sturminster Exchange
Jackie Upton-King recalled her experiences and reflections on her part in the redevelopment of the Old Market Site at Sturminster Newton.
She recalled the last day of the market which closed without any warning. Then ten years later as the new Exchange was being completed the old signal and bell from the market were unveiled and rung by a ten-year old boy.
The development has revitalised the town. Rotary were involved with the market column sculpture carved in situ to commemorate 800 years of the market, and they fundraised for the wonderful stone sign over the south entrance.
