This year’s “KidsOut” event, in association with Shaftesbury school, was a circus skills workshop provided by Circus Berzercus a highly skilled (and amusing) duo from Devon. Kids Out partners with Rotary to to take more than 25,000 disadvantaged children  on a national day out each year. Please CLICK HERE to read a press cutting of the event.

Monday 11th

We met for a business meeting and meal. One highlight was a report on our Circus Berserkus entertainment for children which we ran the previous Saturday at Shaftesbury school. Children learnt circus skills themselves and then watched a very entertaining performance by two comics, one of whom rode a unicycle.

We were also happy to have a date confirmed for our visit to our twin club of Heerlen in the Netherlands. This will take place in September.

Sunday 17th

This was our Christmas celebration, and the final meeting of the year before we meet again at the end of January. We shared good company and an excellent meal at the Fleur de Lys. David and his team make everything they provide that extra bit special and after a salmon starter we enjoyed the best ever turkey followed by mince pies with cream and custard.

Saturday 23rd

13 Rotarians turned out 9am to 4.30 to hold a street collection outside Tesco. The total raised was £619.99 and a few foreign coins. The proceeds will be divided between “Mosaic” and other local charities. We thank Tesco for allowing us to collect at the store and wish everyone who supported us a Happy New Year.
