2nd – No meeting


9th – Meeting

Regrettably our speaker failed to arrive so we spent an enjoyable time sharing Rotary anecdotes.


11th – Defibrillator Training

A repeat of the very successful training in the use of the heart defibrillator equipment was held at Shaftesbury football club with a rewarding attendance of some 40 people.


16th – Business Meeting

The Council minutes for march were acknowledged and discussion took place on the on several impending events. Full details can be seen in the May Council minutes on the members page, we also held our annual general meeting to elect officers.


21st – Youth Speaks

Shaftesbury School kindly hosted the Regional Final of the Intermediate and Senior competitions on Saturday 21st April 2018. Teams from as far as Gosport, Truro, Barnstaple, Plymouth and Chippenham attended to demonstrate their speaking skills. With six teams in at each level The Sir John Colfox Academy from Bridport were awarded winners of the Intermediates and Bishop Wordsworth’s School of Salisbury were awarded winners of Seniors. The winners progressed to The National Final at Exmouth on 12th May 2018. Thanks to the organiser Mike Hurley, The Judges, Timekeepers, Shaftesbury School and Keith Brown for enabling the competition to Take place.


23rd – Speaker, Steve Uden

Steve Uden was speakers friend and introduced seven members from his previous club of Northampton Becket, one of whom gave a talk on the background and progress of the Agri Toilet project in Malawi which we have financially supported.


30th – Partners Evening & Dorset Mind Services

At a Partners Night at the Fleur De Lys Restaurant in Shaftesbury, club member Richard Shean presented Dr. Andrew Mayers of Dorset Mind Services a cheque for £1500.

Dorset Mind Services are a charity that has been supporting local people with mental health challenges since 1946. They are an affiliate of national Mind, but generate all their own funding, through fundraising, support and sponsorship. Their belief is that anyone with mental health problems should be able to live the life they want.

At present Dorset Mind Services have a strong presence in South East Dorset. Their aim is providing help and support towards wellbeing for all, in all four corners of the Dorset. You can find a wide range of information on their website www.dorsetmind.uk
