3rd – No meeting.

8th – Clay pigeon shooting.

On Sat 8th Dec Members of Shaftesbury Rotary club enjoyed a hearty breakfast at The Walnut Tree in Mere before a mornings Clay Shooting at Wood Farm.

A good time was had by both groups, novices under the expert supervision of Geoff Kelly, and the competent shooters led by Rotarian Mike Farrow.

10th – Business meeting.

We met for our last Business meeting of the year. At the end of this we were especially happy to welcome Sam McLean as a new member. Sam works as an administrator for 4 Shires Asset management. As a younger woman she is especially welcome. We wish her well for the future, as she joins us in our work for the community of Shaftesbury and further afield.

15th – Circus entertainment at the school.

On a day of appalling weather, Circus Berzercus brought sunshine for 20 children from Mosaic Family Support and local schools. Together with Circus Berzercus the children learnt many Circus skills, which created lots of fun and laughter. For the second year running the workshop returned to Shaftesbury School on the afternoon of Saturday 15th December 2018.

The children enjoyed pizza and other party food, kindly donated by Tesco, and Apetito before watching a performance of Circus Berzercus with parents and friends in an audience of over 50. The afternoon finished at approximately 5:30pm, with the children each going home with a cinema ticket.

Shaftesbury Rotary Club would like to say a big thank you to Tesco, Apetito and everybody else who contributed in making it, yet another successful children’s afternoon. It is the Club’s intention to hold another Circus Berzercus Workshop next December so please look out for the announcement and come and enjoy an afternoon of fun.

December 16th – Christmas Meal.

We met at the Fleur restaurant for our Christmas meal with our partners. President Guy wished everyone welcome, and we enjoyed an excellent meal courtesy of David Shepherd who always looks after us very well. A choice of Salmon with Prawns or Game Terrine, was followed by Pheasant or Turkey and then coffee and mince pies. The latter were homemade and particularly generously filled. We presented our gratuity to the staff, and then enjoyed conversation amongst friends, before parting until we meet again, in the second half of January, after our seasonal break and the Fleur’s holiday time.

Rotary Christmas Collection.

Rotarians donned their Christmas hats and sweaters to carry out the regular Christmas Collections for Rotary and Local Children’s Charities. A total of £677.37 was raised over two days, 2nd and 22nd December.

The proceeds will go towards The Circus Skills workshop organised at Shaftesbury School on the 15th December. Any surplus will be distributed to a local Shaftesbury Charity or serving cause. We thank all the public for giving generously throughout the year enabling us to continue to support local community.
